Tokyo: Other than by car/Get off at Yamagata Shinkansen Akayu Station, 5 minutes by taxi. Car/Tohoku Expressway - Fukushima Junction - Tohoku Chuo Expressway - Nanyo Takahata IC - Route 13 toward Yamagata for about 4km Sendai: Other than by car/Transfer at Yamagata Station on the Senzan Line, get off at Akayu Station on the Ou Main Line and take a taxi for 5 minutes By car/Tohoku Expressway -> Murata JCT to Yamagata Expressway -> Yamagata JCT to Tohoku Chuo Expressway -> Nanyo Takahata IC - Route 13 toward Yamagata for about 4km [For those who come by car during winter] If you are coming by car, studless tires or chains are required. If you drive to Akayu Onsen from other prefectures, it is almost a straight road over the mountains. If your desired route is closed due to bad weather, there may be no alternate route. We recommend that you check road conditions in advance.
